Privacy Policy

One thing: the email address you type into a form on this site, if you choose to type one. Nothing on this site asks for anything else, because there is nowhere else to put it.

That address goes to Brevo, our mailing list provider, with a couple of small notes attached: which page you signed up from, and that the signup came from Crossed Quills. If a popup on this site asked which kingdom you were writing from and you picked one, which one you picked is stored alongside them — it is a preference about a story, not a fact about you, and skipping the question stores nothing at all. That is the entire record. We do not ask for your name and we have no field to keep one in.

There are no accounts, no passwords and no profiles. Nothing you read here is tied to you, because until you send us an address there is no you for it to be tied to.

No analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixels, no session recording, no heatmaps, no fingerprinting. None of that is on this site and none of it ever has been.

This site sets no cookies at all. No third party runs code on these pages either: no embedded video, no social widgets, no comment system, and no fonts pulled from someone else's server — the two typefaces are served from this domain.

Subscriptions are not open yet, so we hold no postal addresses and no payment details of any kind.

Two values, both written by your own browser, both first-party, and neither ever sent to us or to anyone else.

"cq:waitlist-popup" is written to local storage when you close the waiting-list popup, so that it stops asking. It holds a date 30 days ahead and nothing more. If you join the list from the popup instead, it is set to remember that permanently, so you are never asked again.

"cq:waitlist-popup-shown" is written to session storage the first time that popup opens, which is what limits it to once per browsing session. It disappears when you close the tab.

Neither holds personal data. Clearing your browser storage removes both, and the site works exactly the same without them.

Every signup form on this site carries a hidden field named "company". It is invisible to people and to screen readers, and only automated form-fillers ever put anything in it. When it arrives filled, we throw the submission away without storing anything.

It is there so the list stays free of bot signups without making you prove you are human — no puzzle to solve, and no third-party CAPTCHA watching how you move your mouse in order to decide.

Two companies, and no others. Brevo stores the list and sends the emails, acting on our instructions and for that purpose only — they are our processor, not an independent owner of your address.

The second is Vercel, who host this site. Every request to a page here passes through their infrastructure, including the one carrying your address to Brevo, and requests appear in server logs there. We do not know how long those logs are kept, so this page does not claim a period.

We do not sell, rent, trade or hand your address to anyone else. There is no advertising partner, no data broker and no affiliate in this arrangement.

Brevo is a European company, so your address may be stored and processed on servers outside the United States, including in the European Union. Joining the list means agreeing to it being handled there as well as here.

Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We have not set an expiry date, and we will not pretend to one we do not enforce.

There is no second copy anywhere: no database on this site, no spreadsheet, no backup file. Brevo is the only place your address lives. That is also why a failed signup here means you are genuinely not on the list, and the form says so rather than dressing it up.

Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Using it stops the email immediately, and it is the fastest route.

Unsubscribing leaves your address on file as unsubscribed, so that nothing can quietly resubscribe you later. If you would rather the record was gone altogether, write to support@crossedquills.com and ask us to delete it — we reply within 1–3 business days — and we will remove it from Brevo.

Deletion is permanent and we cannot undo it. Once it is done we will no longer be able to tell you whether you were ever on the list, because we will no longer know.

This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. Crossed Quills is written for adults. You must be at least 18 to subscribe, to buy a gift subscription, or to give us an email address. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to support@crossedquills.com and we will delete it.

You have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, and to have it deleted. For this site that is a short list: an email address, if you gave us one.

Write to support@crossedquills.com and tell us which you want. We will not charge you for asking, and we will not give you a worse service for having asked.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Not merely at the moment — there is no advertising technology anywhere on this site to do it with.

Subscriptions are not open yet, so no payment has ever been taken. When they open, card details will go directly to a third-party payment processor that is PCI compliant. Crossed Quills never receives, sees or stores full card numbers. What we will hold is the same as we hold now — your email address — plus the postal address a letter has to be sent to. What that subscription commits you to is set out in the terms of service.

A new version goes up on this page and the date at the top changes with it. That date is how you tell.

If a change materially affects an address already on the list, we will email the list before it takes effect. We will not quietly widen what we do with your address and hope nobody rereads the page.
